The Eye (Giant Eyeball)
Weird, free-to-see-from-the-street art that proves downtown is not only banks and memorials.
The story
Weird, free-to-see-from-the-street art that proves downtown is not only banks and memorials.
A 30-foot hyper-realistic eyeball — veins and all — by Chicago artist Tony Tasset sits in the garden of The Joule hotel. It is a replica of the artist's own eye, scaled up into roadside-attraction surrealism on one of downtown's swankiest blocks. The garden itself is private, but you can photograph the Eye from the Main Street sidewalk.
